Christopher Jarrold

Hello and welcome, to introduce myself my name is Chris, and I am fortunate to say I am a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. I love what I do and consider my work one of my hobbies. I come from a Family of professionals who each found themselves in the business of health and looking after others in some capacity. My interests took me toward mental health and I have been cultivating my interest since 2009.

In addition to CBT, I enjoy reading, films, bouldering, snowboarding, music, and barbecues. I am a food enthusiast, apple tech enthusiast, osprey hiking bag enthusiast and enjoy going for long hikes/adventures with my partner.

A part of being an excellent therapist is reflective learning reflective practice. Therefore, I have a great appreciation of the past, the knowledge I’ve attained through Psychology undergraduate, the people I’ve met and how they’ve helped to develop my confidence in my work. Being reflective has helped me to pay attention to what has been useful and what works well for the clients and colleagues I work with. My work ethic is to work hard, innovate, ask questions and be the best CBT therapist/human I can be.

I recognise the human experience is about having good days and days where we have to use our best efforts to overcome adversity. Difficult situations are a part of human experience without exclusion of class or culture. Although humans are often divided in how much adversity each of us experiences, we all have the commonality that we do experience adversity. Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, a close friend, job loss or some other difficult life event. Life can find a way to catch us off guard and we find ourselves having to reconnect with or find new strength to manage.

I’ve worked with all ages from helping with childhood cognitive development to NHS child and adolescent mental health services, to adult mental health inpatient, to later life mental health inpatient as a mental health support worker. Finally training in Low-intensity and then High-Intensity CBT. Additionally, I have worked with Time to Change, Rethink Mental Illness, Samaritans and Mind charities to further support people in the community affected by mental illness.

With CBT we can gain an understanding of your experiences of being a human, and how you’ve navigated the complexities and responsibilities of being.
